The Gay Mythbuster

So I’m learning as I go.

My first “Daddy’s Sex Talk” was an assignment for a Sexuality and the Media class at Widener University. I am about to start my third and final year in their postgraduate human sexuality double major program. I am stoked that this class got me motivated to start a YouTube channel of sex education information directed toward gay and gay-curious men. I am hopeful that those who don’t share that identification may find something illuminating in the content, but as I’ve learned, the privilege of cis-heteronormativity allows a lot of people to avoid learning anything about marginalized groups. I like to think of my work online as an extension of my gay activism in the non-digital world. It supports my goal of empowering my community.

I’ve successfully recorded a second video and podcast for my site which you can check out here. I’ve already learned some frustrating lessons about the importance of a good audio capture, the limitations of “affordable” video equipment, and lighting in small spaces. I had scripted the first episode as it was a class project and learned that the scripted prompter should not be too far away from the camera. For my just posted video, I improvised around a prepared list of myths about gay men. I’m hoping to strike a good balance between prepared information and a conversational approach. This type of sexual education is difficult to learn, but I know I’ll rise to the challenge.I will keep getting better and offering better and better product as this channel grows.

Regardless of the technical challenges, I think the information I am sharing is sound and relevant to men navigating the journey through gay identity. My first video talked about gay being an identity far beyond sexual orientation while my most recent video tried to negate harmful messaging that exists around the gay identity. I invite you to check out the video and also listen to my podcast interview with my dad. I hope you enjoy, subscribe, tell friends, and partner with me in doing transformative work in gay male sexuality. I’m happy to serve as the surrogate Daddy for people who didn’t get the information in their youth to support them in being empowered gay men. Knowledge is power. And Daddy loves you.

And We’re Off…

… well, I’m slightly off. So excited to actually be starting on my online human sexuality education journey! I know that I have been combining my gay activism with my social media presence, but to actually focus on direct education onine is very exciting for me! Shout out to my Widener professor Melissa A Fabello for the guidance and motivation to start this work. Excited to see what is in store for us along this journey.

If you’ve stumbled onto this site before the official premiere of my first YouTube video on August 1st, you can get an advanced peek by heading over to the “Episodes” page.

Thanks for checking out my site and hit me up with any feedback or any questions you may have about gay male sex and sexuality.
